The River Clyde Pageant is the central event of the River Clyde Arts Season.

Established in 2016, this outdoor performance spectacle is created and performed each summer by artists and community members across Prince Edward Island - the district of Epekwitk in Mi’kma’ki - and beyond. The Pageant features many striking elements, from giant puppets to stilt walkers to illuminated lanterns and outdoor sets. It is performed by actors, musicians, dancers, puppeteers, storytellers and stiltwalkers of all ages. The Pageant draws attention to the history, mythology and contemporary environmental issues associated with PEI rivers and waterways. It celebrates the strength and imagination of the diverse community, human and non-human alike, who call this place home.

The River Clyde Pageant is performed on the last weekend of July and the first weekend of August every summer in New Glasgow, PEI. Weekend performances conclude with a free community meal for audiences and performers overlooking the River Clyde.

The River Clyde Pageant is a collaborative creation, and we welcome anyone who wants to be involved – all ages, abilities and levels of experience.

You don’t need to be a ‘performer’ or ‘artist’ by any traditional definition, but if you have an interest in building puppets and lanterns, singing in a choir or playing music, stilt-walking, playing a character, or if you are concerned about our delicate waterways, ecosystems and the climate crisis, then we have a place for you in the  Pageant.

  • Pageant public workshops are always free, and registration for summer workshops launches in May each year. Sign up for any of our free summer workshops here.

  • If you are not able to commit to a workshop or to be in the performance,  production volunteers, builders, sewers and creative types are always needed throughout the creation process!
