Monica Lacey
Monica Lacey is a multidisciplinary visual artist, writer, administrator, and educator who prioritizes connection and communication in her work, play, and practice. Monica holds a Diploma in Textiles and Photography from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, and has received several awards and grants for excellence in her work and service to her community, including the Garfield Weston Award and the Nel Oudemans Award.
In her community-centered work over the past two decades, Monica has taught literacy, yoga, and art classes in women’s shelters, community spaces, and with charitable organizations serving children and families. After working in administration and Human Resources in the for-profit sector for many years, she served as Executive Director for this town is small, PEI’s artist run centre, for three years, and developed many programs for the visual art community. She served as Accessibility Coordinator for the 2022 River Clyde Pageant under the mentorship of April Hubbard, and developed a comprehensive Access Guide for the summer programming as well as implemented accessibility measures for patrons and performers. She is continuing this work as RCP’s part-time Accessibility Coordinator through 2022.
She lives in Epekwitk/PEI on unceded Mi’kmaq territory with her husband and daughter, where, in addition to her studio practice, she teaches Kundalini Yoga and serves as curator for the Fitzroy St. Tiny Art Gallery, a mini public art space on her front lawn.
